We left Oswestry on Friday morning with the weather holding fine. We had decided to try the new CCC Site at Wyeside, near Rhayader but after telephoning the CCC booking line we realised the site doesn’t open until the 1st June!!! Oh well, we chose a little CS site at Llangurig to stop for a couple of nights instead.
The journey from Oswestry into Wales was a very pretty route taking us along the A483, the A489, the A470 and the A44. The weather was holding dry and sunny so we stopped after an hour just after Newtown in a lay by. We had been held up for a short time in Wrexham and there were extensive roadworks at Newtown, but in both cases not too much of a delay.
We arrived on site at Glangwy Farm around 1.30pm and soon had ourselves set up. For the first time this holiday we were able to enjoy a cup of tea in the sunshine outside the van as the temperature was just nice. We were sharing the site with 3 other outfits but it wasn’t crowded at all. We pegged the dogs outside for a change and we spent the rest of the afternoon and evening relaxing in the sunshine.
Glangwy Farm is quite a large site but like many places in Wales it has suffered quite a lot of flooding and the adjacent field, where we exercised the dogs, was still quite squashy under foot. Hopefully we will have a better summer than we have had of late!
On Saturday we visited Rhayader and the Elan Village and the reservoirs. We had a drive in the Elan Valley for a while and then decided to visit the Visitor Centre for tea. Unfortunately it was very busy and we had to park in the overflow car park. We did try and get a cuppa but with so many people and dogs it was a little difficult, so we decided to go back to the Granny and make use of our own tea making facilities. The camping stove in the Granny worked fine and we had our tea, although dumbo Gary managed to lose the rubber burner seal to stop all the biofuel evaporating too quickly. He will have to make another one sharpish!
Back at the site we had a relaxing last evening away as we would be heading home tomorrow. With the clocks going forward and it being Mothering Sunday we would be in no rush to leave!
